The World Championships is back for 2024!

*** EVENT UPDATE - Due to poor wave conditions on Saturday, the event will now be on Sunday 15th September. Great Western Beach, Newquay.

The community event will be run in collaboration with Newquay Boardriders Surf Club, with all proceeds will be donated to Boardriders Club.

We want to celebrate the bellyboarding community and have a great meet up. The event is inclusive and open to anyone who enjoys bellyboarding!

Tides: Low at 08.51 (2.6m). High at 15.05 (5.7m)

Entry Price: £15 for adults. £10 for Junior. (+ £0.50 booking fee)

10:30 – Round 1 Women’s Open (5 heats)

11:20 – Round 1 Over 60 Men’s (4 heats) 

12:00 – Round 1 Over 60 Women’s (2 heats) 

12:20 – Round 1 Junior Boy’s/Girl’s (2 heats) 

12:40 – Round 1 Fins Division (5 heats) 

13:30 – Semi Final Men’s Open (3 heats)

14:00 – Semi Final Women’s Open (2 heats) 

14:20 – Final Junior Boy’s/Girls

14:30 – Final Over 60 Men’s 

14:40 – Final Over 60 Women’s 

14:50 – Final Fins Division 

15:00 – Final Women’s Open

15:10 – Final Men’s Open

(Presentation will be held shortly after the event)

Contest Criteria

  • Each wave will be scored on a scale of 0.1 – 10, with 10 being a perfect score.
  • Judges will be looking for – Barrels (Green cover ups), Manoeuvres (Barrel rolls, top turns, board slides, change of direction), Length of ride Style, Panache, Flow, Speed and Stoke!
  • Please Check-In with the Beach Marshall before your heat and to pick up your coloured cap.
  • 10 Minute Heats with Max 20 Waves (top 2 waves scored)
  • Party waves can be fun but please no deliberate drop ins if another person is on a great wave which will significantly impact the overall score.
  • Adult Boards should be roughly 4ft x 1ft and made of wood!
  • Riding without a wetsuit is encouraged!

Food & Drink: The Great Western Beach Complex will be open from 8.30 in the morning and all day, providing great food and drink.

Online Tickets are closed! There will be some space on the day for beach sign-ins.

Great Western Beach, Newquay. TR7 2NE

You can access the beach on foot only, via a smooth tarmacked lane. The lane entrance can be found on Cliff Road, hidden between the K2 Gym building and the Great Western Hotel.

Please note, there is no vehicular access to the beach.

There is plenty of parking throughout Newquay close to the beach. Trenance car parks are about 1/2mile away. Find them here.

FAQs

What time do I arrive at beach?

Heat drawers will be confirmed on 11th September - this will be emailed to all competitors. You will need to be at beach at least 1 hour before your heat to register for the heat.

Do I wear a wetsuit?

We encouage everyone to ride in the traditional way, without a wetsuit! Although its up to the rider, you can still enter and wear a wetsuit.

Where can I park?

There is NO parking at Great Western beach! Please find a local car park and walk down to the beach. There are loads of car parks, we'll be parking at the Council car parks at Trenance here.

How is it scored?

The event will be scored via experienced judges with a mix of flow, style, length of ride and stoke!

I'm new to bellyboarding, can I enter?

This event is for anyone who enjoys riding wooden bellyboards! All skill levels and abilities welcome, come get involved.

What board can i ride?

This is event celebrates the traditional British bellyboard. Board dimensions for the main event should measure roughly 4ft long by 1ft wide (or similar!). Shorter variations are welcomed for the Juniors!

Can I use flippers?

The main event will be simple and traditional: Swim suits and wooden boards only!

We'll be running an expression session for those who want to show their stuff in deeper water with flippers on!
