Own A Bit Of Beautiful Bellyboard Artwork With The Surf Wood For Good

On Friday the 17th of June we rolled down to St Ives for the live launch of the Surf Wood For Good Auction, a collaboration between us, our friends at Surfers Against Sewage and Little Goat Gruff.

The initiative sees 30 artists of local and international renown each create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, using a Dick Pearce bellyboard as their canvas. Until the 6th of July, you can bid on these beautiful pieces of ply, with all proceeds going towards SAS’ vital efforts to conserve and protect our oceans.

The collection features work by critically acclaimed British painter Kurt Jackson alongside celebrated Cornwall-based artists Nina Brooke, Clara Jonas and Laurie McCall, whose passion for surfing and the local coastline shines through in each unique piece.

The auction is part of our Surf Wood For Good initiative, supported by SAS and Little Goat Gruff, which seeks to raise awareness around the scourge of cheap, environmentally-toxic bodyboards so often discarded on our beaches and show how wooden bellyboards can provide part of the solution.

“Surf Wood for Good is such a brilliant initiative,” said Emma Cowley, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Surfers Against Sewage. “Bellyboards are kinder for the planet, don’t produce ocean-choking plastic, and are so much fun to use. We think everyone should try the ply!”

Reflecting on the auction, she added: “The level of artwork created has been phenomenal, and we want to say a huge thank you to all artists who were involved. It’s so exciting to raise ocean-saving funds in such a collaborative, creative way.”
